Nowitzki Named Player Of The Week

DALLAS (CBSDFW.com) —Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 6-12 the NBA announced today. This is the 13th time Nowitzki has garnered the honor in his career and the second time this season (also games Nov. 22-28).

Nowitzki led the Mavericks to a perfect 3-0 week with wins over Golden State, New Jersey and Utah. He averaged 25.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during that stretch while shooting .700 from the field (28-40 FGs), .667 from three-point range (6-9 3FGs) and .789 from the free throw line (15-19 FTs).

Dirk began the week on Tuesday (12/7) scoring 25 points against the Golden State Warriors while making 10 of his 18 attempts from the field.
More impressively were his games on Thursday vs. the Nets and Saturday vs. the Jazz.  Nowitzki recorded a double-double in each of those games and shot a combined .818 from the field (18-22 FGs).

On the season, Nowitzki ranks fifth in the NBA in scoring average (25.0 ppg) and eighth in field goal percentage (.568).
