Noted Dallas Philanthropist Nancy Hamon Dies At 92

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Widely respected philanthropist Nancy Hamon, of which Hamon Hall at the Winspear Opera House is named, has died at the age of 92.

Hamon gave tens of millions of dollars to arts and art education programs throughout Dallas, including a $10 million donation in 2008 to the AT&T Performing Arts Center and a $20 million offering to the Dallas Museum of Art in the 1980s.

"Her tremendous generosity helped make this Center- this gift to the city of Dallas - a reality," said D. Roger Nanney, Chairman of the AT&T Performing Arts Center Board of Directors. "Her great passion for the arts certainly has had a lasting impact on this city."

A release from the AT&T Performing Arts Center Saturday called Hamon a "strong cheerleader" for the arts, and noted that a wing at Booker T Washington High School for the Performing Arts is also named after her.

"Ms. Hamon's great passion for the arts and her love for Dallas just epitomizes the tremendous spirit of giving in this community," said Center President and CEO Mark Weinstein. "She clearly had many, many friends here in Dallas. The Center's Board and staff send our deepest condolences to Mrs. Hamon's family and loved ones."
