Not So Fast, LeBron
Amidst the constant flurry of noxious words from critics worldwide, LeBron James finally received his Larry O'Brien trophy and simultaneously, an NBA Finals MVP accolade last night--doing so in a 121-106 Game 5 win over the Thunder.
Not so fast, though.
Sure, LeBron's Miami team's championship title win should absolutely go down in the official record book. But, not without being marked by a giant asterisk right next to it.
Yes, LeBron finished with 26 points, 11 boards and 13 assists last night to lead the Heat's charge to take the NBA Finals in five. And yes, LeBron also finished the series as the Heat's top performer with a combined 143 points over said 5 games to subsequently award him the series MVP.
But, this feat transpired and ultimately culminated from a 66 game NBA lock-out shortened season.
Additionally, the exact same fate should equally be applied to the 98-99 San Antonio Spurs, who won their franchise's first championship title that season due to a 50 game NBA lock-out shortened year.
A traditional, conventional, standard, absolute season--82 games. That is the true test.
Maybe the rest of the titles LeBron has left to win (ala' his initial Miami dynasty guarantee) will have "not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven" or any asterisks next to them.
