Not Romo's Fault His Contract Does What It Does
105.3 THE FAN -- The Cowboys may have "flipped the switch" on Tony Romo's contract, but that doesn't mean anything will change.
They are still stuck at the moment trying to resign and retain some of their guys just to fill the roster.
And some of the reason is because of the expectations and contract status of Romo. But it's not his fault that he has the contract he has. The debate isn't even whether or not he deserves the contract.
However, if the team does retain its top talent -- which from what I've been told none of them want to leave -- and is able to add talent like Travis Frederick and Terrance Williams throughout the draft, then I think they can take advantage of the Romo era.
They still have a ton of holes to fill -- a ton. But if they can do it on the cheap with rookie contracts that might eventually turn into studs like Frederick and Tyron Smith, then maybe just maybe this team is heading in the right direction.
I know it's a stretch for those who can't stand Jerry Jones.
But the simple truth is, the way the Cowboys salary cap is handled right now doesn't allow them to make certain moves. For now, the'll just have to keep all the lights in the house on and keep flipping switches.
