Not Quite as Hot To Start the Weekend
After hitting a new daily record high temperature of 108° on Thursday, we're looking and feeling better for Friday. A weak cold front moved through early this morning, bringing with it slightly drier and cooler air for today and tomorrow. As you might think, an August cold front will not really make it chilly around here, but it will be about 10 degrees "less hot" today compared to Thursday.
With the north wind blowing today and tonight, temperatures will ease back into the lower to mid 70s overnight into Saturday morning. Some suburbs will dip into the upper 60s! Make sure you take advantage of this break. We haven't seen morning temps like these in many weeks.
We should pop back into the upper 90s Saturday afternoon and then back above the century mark by Sunday as winds switch back around out of the south. Another weak system will approach North Texas for the start of next week. This should touch off the chance for more isolated t'storms Sunday PM thru Tuesday. Temperatures will still hover around 100°
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression #7 has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to become Tropical Storm Gordon later on Friday. The depression is about 900 miles east of the Windward Islands as of this writing. It is expected to move into the Caribbean late in the weekend and possible approach Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica by early next week.
We'll see what this storm can do if it continues on to the Gulf of Mexico, but that wouldn't be until late next weekend. Stay tuned!
