Northeast Snow Storm Causes Few DFW Cancellations
DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CBS 11 NEWS) - The massive snow storm in the northeast didn't cause too many cancellations at DFW International Airport, which is great...unless yours is one of the flights cancelled.
Most travelers already knew about the monster storm. It took Carol and Mel Tjeerdsma of Sherman by surprise when someone asked them about it last night.
"Is this storm out east going to change your flight plans? And we said, What storm?!" Carol remembers.
"Our flight was originally Dallas/Fort Worth to Newark to Milan," Mel said.
Flights out of DFW to Newark were cancelled. So were flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport and Boston and about a dozen other cities.
In all, 40 arrivals and 40 departures were cancelled for the day.
"So, he spent over three hours on the phone last night, on his cell phone, trying to change flights," Carol said.
"I was on hold most of the time for about three and a half hours," Mel said.
Their airline, United, figured out a way around the storm.
"Now, we're going from Dallas/Fort Worth to Frankfurt to Milan. So, We're going to skip the storm which is very good for us," Mel said.
"I wasn't too crazy about flying into a snow storm," Carol said with a chuckle.
DFW International Airport expects even fewer flight cancellations Saturday – only seven.
Love Field wasn't impacted at all.
