North Texas To Start Spraying For West Nile

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Areas in Dallas and Tarrant County will begin spraying for West Nile after mosquito pools were confirmed positive for the virus.
Dallas will spray Tuesday night and Wednesday night, while southeast Tarrant County will spray Friday night, weather permitting.
The infected mosquito pool in Dallas was near the 11000 block of Sinclair Avenue in the 75218 zip code. The area to be sprayed is the general area between Earlywood Drive on the north, Saxon Street on the west, Lanewood Circle on the east and Alvin Street on the south.
The positive mosquito sample in southeast Tarrant County was collected in the area around Grimsley Gibson Road.
Both Dallas and the Tarrant County Public Health department remind to take precautions against mosquito bites by routinely dumping standing water on their property, using repellent, and dressing for dusk to dawn.
Dallas also says that while the insecticide is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency for treatment, residents in the affected area should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors. People inside a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass and the spray is no longer visible. Persons out during the scheduled spraying time should be alert for trucks and should not follow them. Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. The spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect.
To date in Tarrant County, 1,572 mosquito samples have been tested, and a total of eight have tested positive – four in Fort Worth, one in Richland Hills and three in unincorporated Tarrant County.
In Dallas County, 1,358 mosquito samples have been tested this year, and a total of six have tested positive.
