North Texas to see hottest days since August, cooler temperatures expected by Monday
NORTH TEXAS – Before we dive into the forecast, just a quick reminder: It's not officially Fall yet.
Mother Nature is certainly going to remind us of that fact. Expect August-like weather in September for the next three days.
On Friday, I expect a few locations in North Texas to reach triple-digit temperatures. While this is not unheard of for September, it is statistically a bit unexpected.
Last year, DFW experienced its last 100-degree day of the season just after the start of Fall. In fact, last September, DFW had eight days at 100°F or hotter, the most ever recorded. The average temperature for the month was just over one degree higher than the typical August.
The 'feels-like' temperature on Friday could rise above 105°F in some areas, which is the threshold for a Heat Advisory to be issued. However, another criterion for an advisory from the National Weather Service in this area is that temperatures of 105°F or more must be reached for at least two consecutive days.
This dome of high pressure will sit right over us on Friday, likely making it the hottest day of the month. Then it slides east on Saturday, allowing for some clouds and slightly cooler temperatures.
Some long-range forecast models continue to show a front moving through North Texas late Sunday or Monday. This would bring rain chances and cooler weather.
Taking a look at the 10-day temperature forecast, we are expecting the return of fall temperatures on the first full day of the new season.
