North Texas Storms Leave Thousands Without Power
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Nearly 40,000 homes and businesses across North Texas are without power after severe storms blasted DFW for the second straight night. This leaves residents without lights or air conditioning, as area temperatures continue to climb close to triple digits.
Crews from local energy provider Oncor were working at a neighborhood in Dallas, in the 3600 block of Walnut Hill Lane, early Wednesday morning, trying to restore electricity to a handful of those powerless North Texans. And similar scenes can be found all across the Metroplex, as residents wake up to dark homes.
According to Oncor's online Twitter feed, high winds from the Tuesday night storms have resutled in extensive damage to the company's power lines and poles. There are roughly 15,000 people in Fort Worth without power, and about another 5,300 people in Dallas. (Click here for power outage information from Oncor.)
If you see a neighborhood where crews are working, or that clearly does not have power, Oncor is warning people to take extra caution. Many power lines across DFW have been knocked down, and could be very dangerous.
