COLLIN COUNTY (CBS11) - Beer, gas and lottery tickets.

The Appletree Mart convenience Store in the Collin County town of Princeton sells a lot of all three items. But this week, the store anticipates a mad rush of lottery ticket buyers, based on the store's lucky legacy.

"They got a million dollars," John Miller, a customer from Van Alstyne said Thursday morning.

The store owners became new millionaires after the store was notified that a winning Powerball ticket was sold to a customer last February.

The ticket holder was one of three people in the US who hit the winning numbers for $500 million split among the winners.

"It's a lucky place, but I don't know if it's lucky for me," Curtis Rogers jokingly said as he lined up to purchase his weekly allotment of lottery tickets and scratchers.

The mart sits on the eastern edge of the small Collin County town near Princeton High School. The store displays four signs issued by lottery officials when large winning tickets are purchased.

"This time, I hope it's me", Kathy Thompson said while making her Powerball purchase. At the time of her purchase, the ticket in her hand indicated the odds for winning Saturday's expected $700 million lottery: 24.9 million to 1.

"It doesn't feel like it could be the place to win again, but you never know," Thompson said.
