FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Long before Kellyn Acosta was an Olympic hopeful, he was a four-year-old learning to play. His father Ken Acosta remembers he was talented at many sports but soccer was the one that stuck.
"Playing soccer he loved it," says Ken Acosta. "He just loved kicking the ball. And I like playing soccer. I love watching soccer. And so we'd go out and kick the ball around."
At 13, Kellyn joined FC Dallas' Academy then signed with the pro team when he was 16.
Kellyn fills his Instagram account with pictures of his big, blended family, one that's had to miss many of his biggest matches.
"A lot of the other players their families travel to the games. But I'm unable to," says Ken Acosta.
But Tuesday night's Olympic qualifier landed in his own back yard.
"So this is a blessing," says Acosta. "I think he's excited that we're here to cheer him on."
