North Texas Pastor Held On Sex Assault Charge In West Virginia
SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - A North Texas pastor is being held on $75,000 cash bail in West Virginia on charges he sexually assaulted a woman he offered to drive home from a Charleston bar.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said 41-year-old Matthew D. Jarrell of Terrell was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree sexual assault.
Investigators told the Charleston Gazette that Jarrell forced the 36-year-old woman into "sexual acts" after he drove her to a secluded area of Sissonville. The woman told sheriff's deputies she fled after Jarrell's truck became stuck in mud.
A booking officer at South Central Regional Jail said Jarrell was still being Friday and did not know if he had an attorney.
A woman identifying herself as Jarrell's secretary at his Mesquite, Texas, church said she could not comment.
