NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Temika Risher says she was driving home, with her 15-year-old daughter in the passenger seat, when she noticed a car at a stop sign near Hartman Road and California Parkway.

As she approached, she realized the car ahead had been stopped for an inordinate amount of time. Always aware of her surroundings she assessed the situation and quickly realized the driver of the dark-colored, older model sedan had a shotgun pointed at her.

"After I heard the shot go off I just hit the gas," she recalled.

Risher didn't even know she had been shot, but after slamming on the gas for nearly a mile she began to feel pain.

Despite her injury the 38-year-old said she only had one thing on her mind. "I hope it didn't hit my baby."

Riser said the robbers never said anything.

Police believe a similar modus operandi was used to rob a 21-year-old girl in Fort Worth days earlier. It was also dark, around 2:30 a.m., when that victim was stopped at a light. She says a man got out of his car, and pointed a shotgun at her.

According to police, two men drove the woman to a parking lot where they robbed her and debated whether to assault her. Ultimately, they spared her.

Fort Worth police and Forest Hill police are working together to find the two criminals.

Risher didn't get off so lucky. "The bullet went in here... shattered my pinky toe."

The brave mom says she's anxious to return to work, but has to stay off her foot for a month. She also said she wishes the crooks had regular jobs instead of hurting others to make a quick buck.

"They don't have a care in the world. I think they need to find something better to do."
