North Texas Man Convicted In Carjack Slaying Set To Die

HUNTSVILLE (AP) — A North Texas man who was hiding under a truck trailer when he was arrested for a fatal carjacking 12 years ago is facing execution this week in Huntsville.

A lawyer for 40-year-old Ronnie Threadgill is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to put off Tuesday's scheduled lethal injection.

Threadgill was convicted of fatally shooting 17-year-old Dexter McDonald. McDonald was in the back seat of a car outside a club near Corsicana when a man identified as Threadgill jumped in the car, started shooting and took off. McDonald's body was dumped a short distance away.

After a police chase, Threadgill ran off on foot and was found clinging to an axle under a truck at a truck stop.

He'd be the third Texas prisoner executed this year.
