North Texas Girl Wins 'Punt, Pass & Kick' Championship
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Cowboys failed to reach the playoffs this year, but one North Texas girl took home a championship in a totally different NFL challenge. Riley Hamilton won first place in the national 'NFL Punt, Pass & Kick' finals. She represented the Cowboys during the competition, which was held at the January 15 playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
This was the 50th anniversary for the annual challenge. Scores are based on distance and accuracy, and combined for a final result.
The 7-year-old Trinity Christian Academy student placed first in her age group (ages 6 and 7) with a combined score of 142 feet. The included a punt of 50 feet and two inches, a pass of 43 feet and 11 inches, and a kick of 48 feet and one inch.
Even more impressive is that Hamilton had never played football before starting the contest. She trained with her father for months before qualifying for the national competition. Now, she is a champion.
