North Texas Fires Head Football Coach

UNT head football coach Todd Dodge has been fired, less than four years after taking over the Mean Green program. Late Wednesday, UNT Athletic Director Rick Villarreal announced that Dodge had been "...relieved of his duties as head football coach effective immediately."  Offensive coordinator Mike Canales has been named interim head coach while a national search for Dodge's replacement begins. North Texas has a bye this week, so the first game for Canales will be October 30th at Western Kentucky. Dodge is in the fourth year of a five-year contract and has a record of 6-and-37 including the Mean Green's 1-and-6 start this season. In his first three full years, Dodge's teams have never won more than two games in a season.  Dodge came to national prominence as a high school coach, most notably at Southlake Carroll where his Dragons won 98 games and four state championships in seven seasons from 2000 through 2006.
