Parts of North Texas under elevated, critical fire threat heading into the weekend
North Texas is heading into the weekend with warmer temperatures and small rain chances.
Friday started off cool, but temperatures warmed up quickly in the afternoon in the mid to upper 70s. Highs for this time of the year should be around 70 degrees, but that is not going to be the case this weekend. Highs will top out in the 80s.
This weekend will be windy once again. Saturday winds will come from the south around 10 to 20 mph, gusting up to 35 in the afternoon.
Due to the warmth, gusty winds, and dry conditions, fire concerns will be heightened for the western counties.
Sunday, a cold front will pass through North Texas bringing some cloud cover and potentially a spotty shower during the afternoon. By the evening, the stronger storms will push further to the east and southeast. In fact, the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a risk of severe storm development for those locations.
As for DFW, the weekend looks fairly dry. However, an unsettled weather pattern looks to return next week.
