North Texas Drivers To Battle Weekend Construction
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Numerous construction projects will create detours for drivers across North Texas this weekend. At least three major roadways will be shut down as crews work to complete various projects.
Construction isn't always a smooth ride for drivers, especially those who make their living off the road. "We cater to the JIT -- just in time -- market. It's a demanding market that becomes time sensitive," said David Smith, co-owner of Ready To Go, a delivery service that he fears will be slowed down more than normal during this weekend's cone zone on State Highway 114. "If we can't get our product to our customer in a timely basis, then sometimes there are service penalities to be paid."
The State Highway 114 closure is part of the 114-121 connector project. Crews will spend time over the weekend setting bridge girders. The eastbound lanes of the highway will be closed to traffic from State Highway 26 to William D. Tate Avenue. "It impacts me from a payroll point of view," Smith said, "because my drivers are spending more time, dollars per hour, on the road -- trying to get the product to the customer."
But Grapevine is not the only area in North Texas that will be conjested and under construction.
In Dallas, the deck park project will close the westbound lanes of the Woodall Rogers Freeway starting at midnight on Saturday. And farther north in Frisco, a stretch of the Dallas North Tollway will be shutdown in both directions from Gaylord Parkway to Headquater Drive as crews complete work in that area.
So basically, there is a major detour for just about everyone who uses these roadways.
"When those roads are closed, it sure does make a fly in the ointment in the path of progress," Smith said.
