North Texas Beats FAU 70-62 Behind Johnson's 19

DENTON (AP) — Deckie Johnson scored 19 points, Jeremy Combs added 17, grabbed nine rebounds and made four steals and North Texas never trailed in beating FAU 70-62 on Saturday night.
J-Mychal Reese scored 14 points and Eric Katenda blocked a career-high four shots for the Mean Green (11-16, 6-8 Conference USA), which opened with a 21-9 run after Rickey Brice Jr. hit three-straight jumpers and led 30-25 at halftime.
Reese hit a jumper and North Texas led 51-42 with 8:03 left in the second half, but FAU chipped away and pulled within 63-60 on Marquan Botley's 3-pointer.
Johnson made two free throws for a 65-60 North Texas lead with 21 seconds left, then Botley made two free throws to pull the Owls within 66-62. Katenda and Reese each hit two from the line in the final 12 seconds to ice it.
Adonis Filer scored 14, Ronald Delph 13, and Nick Rutherford 12 for FAU (7-21, 5-10), which has lost three straight.
