North Texans Speak Out About Illegal Immigration Issue

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Patricia Moore and her family came from Colombia and waited 15 years to become U.S. citizens.
She is very much against the President's pending executive order on the nation's immigration system. "I don't think it's fair. I am a person who believes in laws. I believe in a framework in order to have a country that will respect my rights and I have to respect the regulations."
Dinorah Sierra, on the other hand, sees the President's actions as a ray of light and hope. She came here from Mexico illegally in 2000 and feels as if she's lived in the shadows. "I feel so happy. With a permit to work, to have a drivers license, we have more chances to a more better life."
Sierra lives in Dallas with her ten year old son. She moved here to escape her first husband in Mexico who she says physically abused her. Her husband obtained custody of their two daughters.
When Sierra's oldest daughter was killed by a drunk driver years ago, and her mother died earlier this year, she says she didn't attend their funerals in Mexico because she worried she wouldn't be able to return here. "It's hard to never see your family again."
As for Patricia Moore, she was once a diplomat for her native Colombia in Norway and Iceland. She says she applied for her sister to become a legal resident here in the U.S., but says they are still waiting to hear from immigration officials. And even though many people like Patricia Moore oppose the President's executive order, they do think the system is broken.
Moore though says the President would allow people to essentially just cut in line.
So she says she'd like to changes made. "What I don't understand is why favor millions and millions of people who didn't do the right thing is the way to go. I don't think so."
