North Texans React To Obama's DNC Speech
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - North Texans have plenty to say the day after the Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most of the comments, from those who paid attention to the convention, centered around President Obama's speech accepting his party's nomination for a second term.
Wanda Courtney of Dallas says the speech brought tears to her eyes. "I think we're going to move forward. Just as he stated, he's not a candidate, he's the President," she said.
CBS 11 News Reporter Steve Pickett visited downtown Dallas and Richardson's Heights Park for reaction to this week's Democratic National Convention, just as he did last week for the Republican National Convention. However, several voters told him they didn't pay much attention to either one.
"Busy with my three little ones. I wish I could say that I did, but I did not," admits Michelle Comeaux of Richardson.
Another mother who home schools her children said she skipped watching the conventions to catch the Texas Rangers games.
Meanwhile, Brad Chesire of Flower Mound said his interest in the Democrat's Convention was minimal. "I lean towards the Republican party. My values lean in that direction."
Another man also added, "I've actually gone so far the other way, I've thought about not even voting this time around. I'm not liking either party right now."
Both Presidential candidates spent the day after the DNC campaigning on opposite sides of the country. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden spent the day at a rally in New Hampshire. While Republican nominee Mitt Romney took his message to Iowa voters. His running mate Paul Ryan talked with voters in Nevada.
