North Texans March In Labor Day Parade For Higher Wages
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Hundreds of North Texans marched down Dallas streets holding signs calling for higher wages. It was a Labor Day Parade with a message.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins helped lead the parade. He says Dallas ranks first in the nation for child poverty because parents who live here don't make enough money.
Judge Jenkins said many employees already direct their applicants and employees towards government assistance because the hourly wages isn't enough. His rebuttal to critics who've said that raising the minimum wage will bankrupt our economy is we're paying either way. Taxpayers pay when citizens have to use government assistance to make ends meat, according to Judge Jenkins.
Judge Jenkins wants to see the minimum wage increased to $10.25 an hour.
President Obama has also called for congress to increase the national minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
