NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (KRLD) - Law enforcement agencies across the state are coming together in solidarity.

Like at other agencies across the state, officers in North Richland Hills flashed their emergency lights for one minute as the funeral for Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth got underway in Houston.

But in addition, people outside City Hall released 200 blue balloons at 11:00 -- the time that Deputy Goforth's funeral began.

Assistant Police Chief Rick Scott says it was a way to get the community involved.

"Not everybdoy in the city drives a police car," says Scott. "So we were looking for a unique way to involve everyone in our city."

People gathered at the event expressed their gratitude for law enforcement.

"They're our first line of defense," Tim says. "Without them, this world would be chaos."

"It's just important that they know that we've got their back when maybe some people don't," says Edie.

Earlier in the morning, volunteers were outside passing out blue ribbons to people driving through.
