Nolan Ryan Hospitalized, Tests Find Nothing Of Significance
HOUSTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Tests run on Texas Rangers CEO and President Nolan Ryan Monday in a Houston hospital found nothing of significance related to his existing heart condition, a team spokesman said.
The team said Ryan was at his home in Georgetown Sunday morning when he started feeling "discomfort." He was taken to an unnamed Houston hospital and underwent tests Monday.
"The test results indicated no new developments with this recurrence of Mr. Ryan's heart condition," read a statement released by the team Monday.
UT Southwestern Medical Center thoracic surgeon Dr. Dan Myer says this kind of thing sometimes happens with heart patients. "It's not uncommon for these bypasses to at some point start to scar. So you have less blood flow going to the heart and then he gets this chest pains," he explained. "So, mostly it's just this discomfort that slowly starts and the patient seeks medical care."
Ryan is said to be "resting comfortably" and is feeling better. The team expects him to be released from the hospital in "a day or two."
Ryan had a double-bypass operation in 2000 and has a family history of heart disease.
