Nolan Ryan Featured In Texas Wildfire Campaign

COLLEGE STATION (AP) - Baseball great Nolan Ryan is pitching fire safety for the Texas Forest Service.

The CEO, president and part-owner of the Texas Rangers is featured in a new public service announcement called "Keep Texas Safe from Wildfires."

The 30-second spot shows a man and a woman camping. The man, while listening to a radio report of another hot day and the danger of building fires during dry and windy conditions, tries to strike a match for a campfire.

He's then hit by a baseball.

Ryan appears and says "there's 167 million acres in Texas, but I can't watch them all."

The Texas Forest Service says all but seven of the state's 254 counties had outdoor burn bans Thursday. Wildfires since November have burned nearly 3.4 million acres.
