No Sanctuary

The Governor puts ending sanctuary city policies as a top legislative priority.

Governor Perry has criticized his opponent Bill White before about making Houston a sanctuary city because of restrictions on police on when they can ask someone if they are in the country legally.  Perry says he will make it a legislative emergency to give law enforcement more discretion when it comes to determining if someone is in the country legally.  White denies Houston…or any other city…is a so-called sanctuary city.  "I don't know of a police chief or sheriff in this whole state who considered his jurisdiction to be a sanctuary, period, end of story."  White says even the DPS, under Perry's oversight, doesn't ask people if they are in the country legally unless someone is arrested for another crime.  He says that's the same policy as most police departments.
