No Charges Against Irving Wrong Way Bus Driver
IRVING (KRLD/CBSDFW.COM) - An update on a story first reported Monday on KRLD NewsRadio 1080, Irving police will not be filing charges against a school bus driver who admits to driving the wrong way on a highway frontage road.
A picture was snapped of the John R. Good Elementary School-bound bus going the wrong way on the Highway 183 frontage road and it was confirmed that one special needs student was onboard at the time, but police said a photo isn't the same as documentation from a law enforcement official.
"We didn't witness it and ya know, we don't even have an exact location of where it occurred," explained Irving Police Department Public Information Officer John Argumaniz. "And based on the violators admission that still isn't enough for us to follow through with issuing a citation for a violation."
Authorities believe the bus driver, identified as Yaw Boadi, made the wrong way move to get around a traffic backup near Story Road in Irving.
According to Argumaniz, driving the wrong way is a Class C Misdemeanor.
On Tuesday, David Escalante, with Dallas County School Transportation, confirmed the bus driver has been suspended and that an investigation is underway.
When asked about the instructions given to bus drivers Escalante said, "The most important thing is the safety of our children so we do emphasize to all our drivers to obey all traffic laws."
While Escalante said all drivers go through "extensive training", the Irving ISD is mandating a special training workshop for the bus drivers on its routes.
