NFL Ratings Ailing? Cowboys Provide The Cure

FRISCO (105.3 THE FAN) - Whatever it is that has ailed the NFL in terms of ratings — Kaepernick? The Election? Over-saturation? Dean Blind-dino's Refs? — the league has found its cure.
The Dallas Cowboys.
FOX announced that Thursday's Cowboys-Redskins game reached 35.1 million viewers on Thursday. Those are World Series Game 7 numbers, Oscar numbers, biggest-regular-season-game-ever numbers.
It helped that the 31-26 Cowboys win was emotional and dramatic and important — important because Washington is a contending team. But more, important because the Cowboys are a lightning rod with a now 10-1 record.
The Denver Broncos (and the Indianapolis Colts) with the now-retired Peyton Manning were TV drawing cards. The New England Patriots have some of this sort of allure, and they are good this season, as usual. The Oakland Raiders are rarely as competitive as they are this season, and now they have allure. (Yes, TV people are giddy over the idea of a Cowboys Super Bowl against the Patriots or the Raiders.)
But this is how the Cowboys are "America's Team." They are not universally loved or universally loathed… they are simply almost universally watched.
