NFL Punishes Saints Players Involved With Bounties
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The National Football League handed down it's punishment to the New Orleans Saints players that were implicated in the infamous bounty-for-hits program.
Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who was said to have offered $10,000 to knock out Brett Favre in the 2009 NFC championship game, has been suspended for the entire 2012 season.
DE Anthony Hargrove has been suspended for eight games, DE Will Smith is suspended four games and linebacker Scott Fujita is suspended for three games.
According to sources, all players are expected to appeal their suspensions.
In March the NFL suspended head coach Sean Payton for the 2012 season, and former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is banned from the league indefinitely.
In addition, the Saints were fined $500,000 and had to forfeit their second-round draft picks this year and in 2013.
