DALLAS COWBOYS

Attention turns to running backs and pass rushers now that Dallas has used its first-round pick on Connecticut cornerback Byron Jones. That's not to say the focus will be on those spots for the Cowboys in the second and third rounds of the draft Friday night.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones is still saying the team has what it needs behind Tony Romo even though NFL rushing champion DeMarco Murray went to NFC East rival Philadelphia in free agency.

And the Cowboys insist they weren't surprised by free agent defensive end Greg Hardy's 10-game suspension for his role in a domestic violence case.

But speculation will persist with solid prospects available at both positions. Dallas traded up to early in the second round for pass rushing help last year.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS

After taking offensive lineman Brandon Scherff in the first round of the NFL draft, the Washington Redskins could look for a pass rusher on Day 2.

The Redskins enter Friday's second and third rounds with the 38th and 69th overall picks.

New general manager Scot McCloughan has said he would like to add extra choices in the draft, hoping to improve a roster that went 4-12 last season.

But instead of trading down in the first round Thursday night, McCloughan held onto the No. 5 overall selection and went with Scherff, the Outland Trophy winner from Iowa.

He played left tackle in college, but Redskins coach Jay Gruden said the team plans to move him to right tackle.

NY GIANTS

Having put the finishing touches on their offense line in the first round of the NFL draft, expect the New York Giants to turn their attention to the defense in the second and third rounds of the draft.

They have plenty of needs on Friday. The defense finished 29th overall and 30th against the run in posting a 6-10 record last season and missing the playoffs for the third straight year.

It cost coordinator Perry Fewell his job and led to the hiring of former coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. New York needs a run stopper at tackle, a middle linebacker for the future and a safety after losing Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown to free agency.

The Giants took big offensive tackle Ereck Flowers with the ninth pick overall on Thursday night. He is the second offensive lineman to be taken by the Giants in the first round in the past three years.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to improve their offensive line and secondary on Friday night after selecting USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor in the first round.

Chip Kelly didn't pull the trigger on a trade that would've reunited him with his former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota because the price was too steep. The Eagles stayed put at No. 20 and selected Agholor to replace the departed Jeremy Maclin.

Now, they have to bolster their offensive line, safety and cornerback positions. Oregon offensive lineman Jake Fisher and Utah defensive back Eric Rowe are possibilities if they're still available when the Eagles pick at No. 52 in the second round. Philadelphia's third-round pick is 84th overall.
