HASLET (CBS11) - Lottery players are taking over-the-top measures in the hopes of winning an off-the-chart Powerball jackpot.
Some folks are using social media to help increase their chances of winning by joining strangers in cyber-pools.
"It's nuts! It's insane. You show up to a store with almost $1,400 in your pocket to buy lottery tickets," said Billie Jo Karger, a Haslet resident. "Who does that? Our neighborhood."
Krager is using a Facebook group to get as many of the 1,517 folks who call Haslet home to take a chance on the lotto.
She purchased nearly 700 tickets for the previous drawing and estimates she will by 1,000 for the next drawing on Wednesday.
"Most think you're spending your rent or your mortgage. They don't know it's a big pool," said Karger
The group is doing something totally legal and Karger is not alone.
Websites like Cha Cha Lotto allow users to create online-pools with people all over the country.
"With Powerball being played in 43 states, you can have an office pool in California, New York and Texas all at the same time," said Mark Aldridge of Cha Cha Lotto.
Aldridge said each group creates its own rules. The ad-supported website is just there to organize the pool.
