New UNT Stadium Meets Highest Green Building Standards
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The new football stadium at the University of North Texas in Denton is one of the greenest buildings in the country.
Thursday the school said its new Apogee Stadium has been awarded a LEED Platinum Certification.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an international standard for environmentally-friendly buildings. There are several levels of LEED certification, and the Platinum level is the highest.
UNT says it's the first "football facility" in the world to achieve the LEED Platinum certification.
The stadium's environmentally-friendly status will be increased in December, when three wind turbines will be installed there. The turbines will supply electricity to the building.
UNT played its first game in the new stadium just last month.
