New Senate bill aims to remove gun ban at State Fair of Texas

The Texas Senate is working on a bill that involves the State Fair of Texas and its new gun policy.

The policy, which banned guns inside the fair unless the person is a licensed peace officer, was first implemented last year.

The issue was whether a private group, in this case, the State Fair, could have such a ban on city-owned property.

On Wednesday, there was a hearing in Austin for Senate Bill 1065, which essentially would force the State Fair to undo the policy.

"This bill is about restoring consistency, clarity, and respect for the rights of law abiding Texans to defend themselves," said Sen. Bob Hall (R) Rockwall.

Groups on both sides of the gun rights issue testified before Senators this morning.

The bill remains pending in committee.
