New Outlet Mall Opens In Grand Prairie
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Shoppers across North Texas now have another option. More than 100 retailers have set up shop at a new outlet mall in Grand Prairie. The Paragon Outlet Mall is located near the intersection of Interstate-20 and Highway 360, and arrives just in time for the state's tax-free holiday.
"Tax-free weekend is one of the biggest shopping periods of the year, especially here in Texas," said spokeswoman Karen Flahurty. "We intentionally coincided our opening to be right on the tax-free weekend."
The opening is an important economic event for Grand Prairie. The Paragon Outlet Mall is the first major shopping center in the city. And it is a big one, with more than 100 stores including brands like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Coach, Gap, Michael Kors and Banana Republic. A preview opening is set for Thursday with the official event being on Friday.
Stores will be open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Click here to learn more about the mall.
The City of Grand Prairie has been anxiously waiting for the shopping center's arrival after giving $17 million in incentives for proper infrastructure like sewers, streets and parking. But progress had been delayed by the economic recession. Now, the city is estimating that the Paragon Outlet Mall will generate $3 million in sales tax revenue each year, and create 1,700 jobs for North Texas.
