New Hope, New Home For Rescued Dog
WEATHERFORD (CBS 11 NEWS) - It was a busy day at Bowie Drive Animal Hospital in Weatherford. It was a reunion of sorts and everyone from the Parker County Sheriff to animal control was there to see special Hope.
"All she's required is food, water and a lot of love. She has just blossomed just like a little flower," says Vet Tech Rhonda Sears "She runs and chases."
Hope has been practically Sears' shadow since she arrived in July. The pug mix was found with her tongue severely swollen. She was stabbed multiple times and her snout taped shut.
Her tongue was also cut, swollen and hanging out.
"She has this permanent scar on her nose. She has lost the hair it won't come back, but it's her racing stripes," says Sears "She will show you her tongue is totally healed."
Requests to adopt Hope have been non-stop and have come from across the world. Even Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler, who was behind the rescue, thought about taking her home.
"It's kind of hard for me because my wife fell in love with her," says Sheriff Fowler "Where she's going is the best place she could go."
That's where Hope was found on that hot July day on a ranch owned by the legendary oil and gas family - the Moncriefs.
Kit Moncrief says she'll be running around with the family's other rescue dogs.
"It makes you want to cry for so many reasons she is such a sweet dog and she will add so much to our family," says Moncrief, "She's a great inspiration to us all."
The Moncriefs have already been inspired to start a group called "Saving Hope." They hope their newest family member's story will inspire others to adopt and take care of their pets.
And while it was hard for Sears and the group at Bowie Drive Animal Hospital to say good-bye, they know Hope will be back for many visits.
"I'm just a chapter in her book. My job is done. I helped get her well," says Sears "It's hard, but I know she's going to a great home. It's not a forever good-bye."
Sears was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have surgery, "We've kind of been recovering together."
And they've no doubt had a bond like no other.
There is still a $35,000 reward for information that leads to the person who abused Hope.
Sheriff Fowler says anyone with information about Hope or the suspect(s), can call the Parker County Crime Stoppers hotline at (817) 599-5555.
