New Heating Device Claims To "Vanquish" Fat Away
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - For decades, people have been searching for an easy way to lose those extra inches. Now weight loss, methods have gone high-tech. Vibrating belts are out. Temperature is in as the new way to vanquish fat.
They say no pain, no gain, but a new machine hopes to prove that statement wrong.
Called Vanquish, it is the latest technology promising to blast fat and let you decide where you want to lose it.
"I have certain pockets where I want to lose weight," explained Tara Harper.
Harper tried out Vanquish to tackle her backside. "It was just a little too big," she said laughing. "The next morning I felt different, my pants were fitting me differently."
There are before-and-after pictures showing a noticeable loss of belly fat. They were all taken at Advanced Skin Fitness in Dallas. The full-service medical spa is the first clinic in North Texas to offer Vanquish.
Bill Moore, with Advanced Skin Fitness, said, "We've had several patients who've had around an inch lost in the first week of treatment."
The Vanquish device heats fat cells to 113 degrees, killing them. After just four sessions, Moore says, studies have shown a 27-percent reduction in the number of fat cells. "We've been waiting for something in the aesthetic industry that would actually work -- that's pain free."
To see how pain free it really is a CBS 11 News reporter tried it out. She said it felt like a warm blanket and definitively didn't hurt.
Vanquish markets itself as U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved. The FDA, though, has only cleared the device for deep heating to relieve pain, reduce muscle spasms, and increase blood flow. It doesn't make any promises about fat loss.
With a price tag of $2,500 for four sessions some people may find themselves feeling a little pain… in their wallet.
