New Exit Open In Dallas Mixmaster

DALLAS (KRLD) - It's a good day for drivers whose commute through downtown Dallas takes them along Stemmons Freeway to the exit for westbound I-30.
That's because some of those drivers no longer have to race across multiple traffic lanes in order to make that exit.
As part of the Dallas Horseshoe Project, engineers closed down the old left side exit ramp for westbound I-30, and have opened a new exit on the right side that will get drivers onto that highway.
"By opening this new ramp on the right side, we're minimizing additional merging and ultimately making the drive safer," says Dianne Tordillo of the Horseshoe Project.
This new two-lane exit for westbound I-30 already has drivers feeling the relief. Other new access points also make for a smoother transition onto that highway. The on-ramp at Riverfront
Boulevard has been reopened. Drivers in Dallas's West End can follow Commerce Street to reach that on-ramp at Riverfront to gain access to westbound I-30.
"This is huge," Tordillo says. "For people who have driven this route for years the I-30 exit has always been to the left. This is a whole new configuration."
Plenty of signage near the new westbound I-30 ramp alerts drivers, and helps them anticipate making the change.
As the Dallas Horseshoe Project continues, the next major opening will be later this summer when more lanes are opened along southbound I-35.
