New Allegations Puts McKinney Chiropractor Behind Bars, Again
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - There were new revelations Thursday during a bond hearing for a McKinney chiropractor accused of sexually assaulting patients.
Doctor David Russell had been charged with using his clinic and medical practice to inappropriately touch four women and girls. McKinney police revealed Thursday that there are a total of 18 accusers.
Of the 18 accusations four are alleged sexual assaults -- the other 14 involve patients accuse the chiropractor of the lesser misdemeanor offense of offensive touching.
Russell's accusers claim he penetrated them with his hands during treatment sessions and some of the patients were students at Taylor Dance Center, which is owned by Russell's girlfriend.
During the hearing authorities also revealed that six of the 18 accusers did indeed file complaints with the state chiropractic board.
According to authorities, allegations against Russell date back to 1995. In fact, the statute of limitations has expired for two of the 18 accusers.
Russell had been free on $200,000 bond and attended Thursday's hearing at the Collin County Courthouse. It was there that prosecutors convinced the judge to raise Russell's bond by $75,000.
The 42-year-old was again taken into custody and briefly booked in jail.
Russell's attorney accused authorities of trying to embarrass his client by arresting him with every new case and using it as a, "instrument of oppression."
"I think that's part of it. I think they're trying to publically humiliate, embarrass, tarnish, [and] assassinate his character in the eyes of the public, in the eyes of the media," said Russell's attorney, Todd Shapiro. "And the more alleged victims, the more alleged complainants that they can list and try to discuss in this case, it may cloud the issue."
Russell's attorneys have secured his release so he is again out of jail.
As it stands, police say they don't expect any more sexual assault charges to be filed.
