Neighborhood Draped In Pink To Support Friend
THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) - Libby Schneider is just starting to wrap her head around all the pink. "I'm stunned! I'm completely stunned," she said from her home in The Colony.
Libby's neighbor and good friend, Catherine Street, drives her friend around in a golf cart. Libby doesn't have the strength to walk for too long.
Standing in her driveway Catherine points out to the pink ribbons on trees, pink bows on doors and all the pink signs along Lakeside Drive.
It's all for Libby. "I can't even begin to tell you how touched I am by my neighbors and friends," she said.
Libby has a history with the group. The 62-year-old and her neighbors go back more than a decade. The group of women banned together with her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006.
"I went through seven rounds of chemo, the usual surgeries and the mastectomy," Libby explained.
And when doctors told her she was cancer free it was the same group who celebrated with her.
But last April, Libby got the news she was dredging. She found out the cancer was back and spreading.
"You cry and then you accept it 'okay what do I have to do this time," she said. "I did it once I can do it again."
Once again, Libby will go into battle with her closest friends... her neighbors. "Whenever there is a sickness, illness or something to celebrate we are together," said Sarah Cary. "We just want her to know we love her and we are going nowhere."
The group of women draw on faith to help support their friend.
"Miracles happen," said Catherine as Libby shook her head, replying, "I'm convinced miracles happen and I'm convinced you are my angels."
The women want to make sure Libby knows they're with her every time she comes outside and sees the pink, especially on days she had to go to chemo.
"I know I'm not alone the pink is just an added reminder to tell me I'm not alone," Libby said.
The group has been working hard and will hold a garage sale on Saturday, October 15. It starts at 8:00 a.m. on Lakeside Drive in The Colony.
All the money raised will go to help with Libby's medical expenses.
