Nearly 1,300 Pot Plants Found In Navarro County
RICE (CBSDFW.COM) - Law enforcement officials on Thursday found nearly 1,300 marijuana plants growing in a very rural part of Navarro County, not far from the city of Rice.
According to Sheriff Elmer Tanner, officers found the plants growing on two plots, and four additional plots had been prepared to possibly grow even more plants. If all of the plants reached maturity and produced a pound of marijuana, the street value could have been around $650,000.
Authorities had received a tip that led them to the area.
Tanner said that officers also found a campsite at the location, which appeared to have been used recently. But no suspects were located nearby. Officials did manage to collect evidence, however, that they hope can lead to an arrest in this case.
The Navarro County Sheriff's Department has seized some 50,000 marijuana plants since 2008.
