IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) — Nearly 100 people attended a rally for peace near the Islamic Center of Irving on Saturday in response to the armed protest at the mosque that happened last week.

The aim of the rally was to show support for the Muslim community in Irving. The rally was scheduled to last about four hours.

"It's very heartwarming to see the outpouring of support," Imam Zia Sheikh, religious director of the center, said in a press release. "We are overjoyed about the fact that we've received hundreds of emails of sympathy and support."

The Islamic Center of Irving was established in 1992. The nonprofit aims to contribute to the community through various civic projects.
