NBA Suspends Mavs' Felton 4 Games For NY Gun Charges
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Just two weeks after pleading guilty to a felony gun charge in New York, the NBA has suspended Dallas Mavericks guard Raymond Felton for four games without pay.
Felton pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He also admitted to knowingly possessing a large-capacity ammunition magazine and a pistol without a license.
The newly acquired point guard was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
"Today we were made aware of Raymond Felton's suspension," said Mavs owner Mark Cuban. "We also learned that Raymond will be permitted to complete his community service outside the state of New York. The Mavericks are working with Raymond and the court to develop a community service program that will have a positive and lasting impact on North Texas."
Felton took responsibility for his actions in a statement released by the team.
"I demonstrated poor judgment and I take full responsibility for my actions. Moving forward I'm eager to get to Dallas, to start fresh and make a positive impact in the Dallas metropolitan area."
