National Scouting Museum Is Leaving Irving

IRVING (CBS11) - The Boy Scouts of America announced on Monday, the National Scouting Museum in Irving will be relocated to their iconic Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
It houses largest collection of more than 100 years of scouting history.
The move is in an effort to bring the scouting experience to more people across the U.S. according to Effie Delimarkos, the Director of Communications for the Boy Scouts.
"If that means that bringing the scouting museum to New Mexico will allow us to do that… that's the best move possible,"said Delimarkos.
Currently the museum in Irving hosts around 20,000 visitors each year.
Administrators with the Boy Scouts said the Philmont Scout Ranch has more than 50,000 annual visitors.
They feel having the museum in northern New Mexico will attract more than twice as many visitors.
Delimarkos said the collection that will be moving is massive.
"What you have in the collection is 600,000 plus artifacts from merit badges to uniforms to various accessories," said Delimarkos.
The move is expected to take about 18 months.
Prior to Irving serving as the home for the museum, it was located in Kentucky, and before that, New Jersey.
