Napolitano To Inspect Border Security In El Paso

EL PASO (AP) - U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is traveling to El Paso to inspect border security operations.

A U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement statement says Napolitano will arrive Tuesday in El Paso after visiting San Diego.

In El Paso, she'll meet with state and local leaders and discuss her department's ongoing efforts to secure the border while facilitating lawful travel and trade.

Napolitano's visit comes after President Barack Obama and a bipartisan U.S. Senate group unveiled separate immigration reform proposals. The Senate proposal says borders must be secured in unspecified ways as a trigger to provide a path to citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants in the country.

In 2011, Napolitano said in El Paso that the border's security is "better than ever."
