Musician Admits To Soliciting Sex With Minors
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- A 30-year-old musician from Nashville has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted enticement of a minor. Abraham Eugene Spear was arrested in September 2012 at a Dallas restaurant while in town to perform with the Josh Thompson band at a local bar.
Spear admitted to using the internet and his cell phone to knowingly attempt to persuade a seven-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity. Using the monikers of MUSICMAN30 and BANJOPAINE, Spear communicated over several weeks with an undercover law enforcement agent, whom he believed to be the mother of two girls, ages seven and nine.
In the communications, Spear tried to persuade the "mother" to allow him to meet her children and engage in sexual acts.
While in Dallas on September 20 to play banjo for the Josh Thompson Band, Spear agreed to meet the "mother" at a Dallas restaurant. Once identified, Spear was arrested by special agents with the FBI.
Spear admitted to sending sexual messages geared towards the "mother's" two daughters. He also admitted to sending a sexually explicit photo of himself, asking what the girls would think of the photo.
Spear also told authorities that he had engaged other mothers of minor girls in sexually explicit communications, including one in which he offered $200 for a sexual encounter with a minor.
Spear will be sentenced on June 7. He faces a statutory penalty of not less than 10 years and not more than life in prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release.
