Murder Victim's Sister Takes Stand In Patterson Sentencing

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Day three of the sentencing phase for a Fort Worth teen who pled guilty to murdering another teen ended with the victim's sister having taken the stand.

Broderick Patterson, 18, pled to the April 2010 shooting death of Eric Forrester.

It was a full day in court as 10 witnesses were called to testify. But the most compelling testimony came from Eric Forrester's sister--Kali.

She was the last family member to see him alive.

"Losing Eric along with that whole situation just made me feel empty, because he's always been there, and he was my little brother," she said in court. "I grew up my whole life with him."

Kali cried as she testified about that horrific day in April 2010.

"He never gave in to peer pressure," said Kali Forrester. "He knew who he was and stuck to it. He didn't want anyone to change his mind. He was strong."

Jurors listened to the 911 call she made after the shooting.

It was evident through Kali's testimony that she feels somewhat responsible for what happened to her brother. Her car battery had died. She called Eric to pick her up from work and take her home for lunch.

They were home when they heard a noise coming from upstairs. "I told him we needed to find out what it was. I told him both of us need to go up there are see who was up there," said Kali.

When the two heard a voice upstairs, Kali ran to a neighbor's house, Eric stayed behind.

Kali called 911. When she returned she discovered her brother wounded and lying on the kitchen floor. He had been shot in the back of the head.

On the 911 call Kali's screams could be heard as operator asked 'What's going on ma'am?' The 911 operator then instructed Kali to begin CPR.

Kali testified that she saw two teens run out of their house, one of them was Patterson. He's already pleaded guilty to the murder and could face 5 to 99 years in prison.

The sentencing trial for Patterson will continue Thursday morning as the defense takes over questioning. Patterson could face anywhere from 5 to 99 years in prison.

Clifton Elliott is also charged with Eric's murder. He faces a possible life sentence.
