Good Samaritans Among 4 Dead In Multi-Vehicle Crash
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Four people were killed and 9 were taken by CareFlite to the hospital after a multi-vehicle accident in Fort Worth late Saturday night. There were at least 4 vehicles involved in the deadly accident.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at 11:59 p.m., according to Terry Grisham, with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. When they arrived in the 1500 block of Burleson-Retta Road, they discovered 4 people had already died at the scene.
Grisham said they believe that there was one vehicle that was stalled that wasn't in motion, whether it had car trouble or for whatever reason, it was on the side of the road. One of the vehicles involved went into a ditch beside the two lane road.
Police found evidence at the scene, which suggests alcohol being a contributing factor in the fatal accident. Speed is another factor.
"Anyone who looks at these vehicles would know that you don't see large vehicles propelled the distances that these have been propelled into trees and other objects without significant speed being involved," said Grisham.
More than 75 witnesses have spoken to police and neighbors confirmed a mother and daughter were killed. They live on the street and went outside to help the stranded motorist.
Another victim, Brian Jennings, was a youth pastor at Alsbury Baptist Church.
Jennings was driving home from his son's graduation party Saturday night and got out of his car to help when he was killed. There were two children of another church member in his car, which were unharmed, according to Senior Pastor at Albury Baptist, Scott Sharman.
He leaves behind a wife, Shauna, 2 sons and a daughter.
