DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) - The mother of one of the two gunmen says she doesn't blame police for what they did.  Sharon Soofi says she had no idea her son held such radical beliefs that he would be willing to plot such a sinister attack.

"I can't imagine what went through his mind," said Soofi.

Soofi says she's at a loss to describe why her son Nadir would allegedly pack an arsenal and wear body armor on a mission to kill people inside Garland's Curtis Culwell Center Sunday.

"He's an intelligent kid to be convinced to do something like this is just beyond belief," Soofi says.

The suspect's mother believes the other accused gunman brainwashed her 34-year-old son while they were roommates in a Phoenix apartment.

"I'm thankful he did not kill anybody and I don't blame the police man that shot and killed him," says Soofi.  "He was just doing his job."

"When your child dies of these kind of circumstances you just it just leaves you numb and empty. I don't know how I'm going to live with it," says Soofi.

Soofi says her son was running a carpet cleaning business and never mentioned radical beliefs.
She only found out about the shooting Monday.
