Mother Fights Breast Cancer While Pregnant

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - This Thanksgiving holiday, one local mother and elementary school teacher says she has plenty to be thankful for after battling breast cancer while pregnant.
Janie Woolsey, 35, of Mansfield said, "They always say God doesn't give you more than you can handle."
Woolsey has proven she can handle a lot. After her 12-year-old daughter, Krysten, died last year, she and her husband decided to try and have another child so her son would have a sibling.
"We didn't want him to be an only child," Woolsey said.
The couple was able to conceive, but six months into the pregnancy, Woolsey learned she had breast cancer.
"I was scared to death. Cancer is not something you want to hear," she said.
Dr. Alan Trumbly with Methodist Richardson Medical Center treated Woolsey. He said it is very rare to see a breast cancer diagnosis in a pregnant woman and recommended immediate treatment.
"She did great with the chemotherapy until the baby was ready. Then we took a break and delivered," he said.
On May 21, Woolsey gave birth to her second son, Kason. He was in perfect health.
"It was a miracle."
Fighting back tears, Woolsey said, "I am thankful for being here and watching my kids grow up. Now, I will hopefully have many, many years to watch them grow."
