'Most Wanted' Sex Offender Arrested In El Paso
AUSTIN (AP) - A 43-year-old man on the Texas Department of Public Safety's 10 Most Wanted sex offender list has been arrested in El Paso.
Officials say Juan Alfredo Gandarilla turned himself in Monday to Border Patrol authorities at the Bridge of the Americas in El Paso, telling them he didn't want to be arrested in Mexico. He has family in the El Paso area.
Gandarilla had been a fugitive since 2005 and on the "most wanted" list since last September. He was sought for parole violation and failure to comply with sex offender registration.
Authorities described him Wednesday as a high-risk sex offender with a lengthy criminal history that included conviction for molesting a 9-year-old girl.
